SAINT JOSEPH CHURCH

This mid-20 Century catholic church was scheduled for a significant interior renovation to the existing sanctuary as well as new additions that included an expanded Narthex and porte cachere. Renovation to the sanctuary included changes to interior finishes, new furniture, life-safety upgrades and a new lighting system.

The lighting scheme adopted a theatrical approach with layers of downlighting, uplighting and integrated coves. Adequate illumination for reading task in addition to enhanced CRI greatly improved overall visual acuity. A 20-zone preset dimming system allows scene changes during services to shift visual focus in relation to service events.

The vaulted wood ceiling is illuminated with cove lights at the perimeter as well as with flood lights integrated at the top of the suspended ciborium. Multiple layers of light are integrated into the ciborium to accentuate the luxurious materials and to provide accent on the alter. Careful integration of these technical instruments ensures that illumination objectives are met and preserves the ornate identity of this celebratory canopy hovering over the alter.
