faceted ceiling

Faceted Ceiling
is a private commission for a residence that was completed as part of a significant interior renovation. The low, 8’-0” ceiling in the dining room of this traditional Tudor-styled home limited opportunities for chandeliers that carried a desired grandeur for the modernized interior. The artwork is interpreted as a fragmented crystal chandelier that is distributed across the ceiling. The ceiling is now a contiguous light responsive skin that captures the changing dynamics of natural and electric light, with patterns, colors and textures in constant flux as residents and guests circulate through the space. Isolated moments of interior and exterior scene coalesce into abstracted pixels of color and light, collapsing recognizable relationships into a provocative kaleidoscope of changing pattern, and recontextualizing the familiar to give the viewer a new awareness of place..
