FACETED PANEL
at manitoga

Faceted Panel
is a temporary art installation sited at Manitoga, The Russell Wright Design Center located in Garrison, New York. Nestled within a beautiful, wooded landscape in the Hudson River Valley, Manitoga is a personal residential retreat that Wright conceived through his philosophy of “good design for living in creative harmony with nature”. Faceted Panel is situated at a specific location above the dining area, the same location where Wright rotated artworks of his own creation on a biannual basis. Through these artworks, he experimented with materials and assemblies that reflected his interpretation of nature and the phenomenal dynamics of changing seasons. Faceted Panel carries forward Wright’s creative interest to connect with nature as the mirrored surfaces literally reflect the surroundings – residential interior, exterior landscape, qualities of light during day and night and human activity – mixing nature with domestic life.

Hundreds of individually oriented mirrored reflectors capture isolated moments of the surrounding scene and fragment them into abstracted pixels of color and light, collapsing human life and nature into a provocative kaleidoscope of pattern and movement. The familiar is recontextualized for the viewer to provoke curiosity and new awareness of place.
